According to Knesset law, the Hebrew date of the assassination, the 12th of Heshvan 5756, serves as the Yitzhak Rabin Memorial Day, the national day of remembrance and mourning marked by all state institutions, army bases and schools.
All Memorial Day ceremonies and educational programming are devoted to commemorating the life and legacy of Yitzhak Rabin, promoting and protecting democratic values and examining the danger that violence poses to society and state.
The Rabin Center hosts memorial and commemoration events throughout the country and assists municipalities, schools, youth movements and army bases in creating commemoration ceremonies. Each year, the Israeli public gathers at the site of the assassination, Rabin Square, for a public memorial event.

The Rabin Center also produces educational materials focused on themes relating to leadership, civil society, democracy and the sociology of the Israeli society each year which are distributed to all schools and army bases. Videos, posters, photographic exhibitions, candles and stickers are also distributed.
